Maribor in Slovenia is one of the most renowned cities in mountain bike racing. International sporting events have been held here since the 1990s. This season, another iXS European Downhill Cup will join the long history.

True downhill fans should not miss out on this experience, as hardly any other course is so often named as the favorite course of the sport's biggest names. And of course the races are also very special, as the course is located directly on the local mountain of Slovenia's second-largest city with a population of almost 100,000.

The way to the finish 🚲

The course in Maribor is a real challenge, it is fast, rocky, riddled with roots and has some tricky grassy bends. But the highlight is undoubtedly one of the most impressive stone fields in the history of downhill racing. Although the course is not particularly steep, it is still considered very challenging. Only those who put in an absolutely perfect run from start to finish can emerge victorious here.

Unlike in previous years, Maribor will not be the series opener this time, which means that better weather conditions can be expected locally. With a race at the end of August in Slovenia, the conditions could therefore be significantly warmer and drier than in previous years.

Previous glory 🏆

The winners from previous years were Luka Berginc in the Elite Men's category and Monika Hrastnik in the Elite Women's category. The two Slovenian riders knew their home course very well, but it remains to be seen whether the winners from back then can prevail again this year.
