Legendary Race in the North of Scotland EDC #2 (GBR)

The iXS European Downhill Cup will experience an absolute highlight of the racing season with the race on the prestigious track in Fort William. The riders need all their skill they have to conquer the longest and perhaps most challenging course in the European Downhill Cup season.

Only a few race tracks in the world have such a glorious history as the track in the far north of Scotland: More than 20 years as a World Cup venue, 2 World Championships and a list of winners that includes the most important names in downhill racing. The upcoming winners of EDC #2 will be in company of such greats as Greg Minnaar, Gee and Rachel Atheron, Steve Peat and Tracey Moseley, just to name a few.

The Track

The almost 3 kilometre-long course starts directly at the Mountain Resort gondola and leads over several rough boulder sections through the high moor of Aonach Mòr. High on top at the start, the wind is a factor that every rider should take into account; you will look in vain for protection from trees or bushes on the first few metres downhill. The following wood section is peppered with tight changes of direction, high steps and the obligatory road gaps. It is important to carry enough speed with you here in order not to waste any time on the subsequent ‘motorway’. The 655 metres in altitude downhill demands everything from even the strongest and most enduring riders; physically demanding from top to bottom, only the fittest participants will be able to deliver a clean run here.

Fame, No Shame

The winners at the Nevis Range will not only be rewarded with one of the most important trophies in downhill sport, but will also receive a wildcard for the World Cup by winning this Continental Series race.

Nevis Range Mountain Experience

Fort William is located in the north of Scotland at the end of Scotland's longest bay and at the foot of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Scotland (1,345 metres). The Nevis Range and the surrounding area is a popular tourist destination in Scotland and offers visitors a wide range of activities. The bike park is known far beyond the country's borders and numerous mountain bikers enjoy the associated bike park with its 14 trails. The bike park offers the right trail for all riding levels. It is not necessary to take the gondola to Anoach Mor to use many of the trails, but it does offer the longest trails and the legendary downhill track.

Where to Sleep?

Fort William is a tourist stronghold in the north of Scotland. There are numerous accommodation options in the surrounding area. The Nevis Mountain Range is the associated tourist resort at the foot of Ben Nevis and is located approx. 7km outside Fort William. There are now car parks for camper vans on site, including sanitary facilities. If you want something a little cosier, you can book into the adjoining Nevis Range Basecamp Hotel.

The paddock will also be set up directly at the valley station and finish area. Bookings for the paddock can be made here on our website.
