Bad Tabarz is, in a way, the oldest existing race in Germany, if it existed. The 30th anniversary was actually due to be celebrated in 2026, but with the cancellation once again, this celebration seems a long way off. After this repeated cancellation, it is highly questionable whether the race can be included in a series calendar again, as planning reliability seems rather doubtful.
We received the following message regarding the reasons for the decision:
The reason for the cancellation is an acute combination of a massive shortage of helpers and a lack of secure overall funding. Despite intensive efforts - including inquiries to the Thuringia Volunteer Foundation, contacting former members and several open funding applications - we can no longer responsibly realize the event under the given circumstances.

The entry fees already paid as part of the series registration will be automatically refunded to the participants in the next few days.
Unfortunately, there are always the same reasons why events with such a long tradition cannot be continued. There is a lack of new, committed people to take on tasks. It is logical that people who have sacrificed their free time for years will leave at some point, but unfortunately it is very difficult to fill such vacant positions in clubs. However, you can't blame those who have been involved in the past, but rather thank them.
And everyone involved should know that the financial conditions for such an event have always been difficult. There is no money to be made from a downhill race. You can be happy if you end up in the black. Unfortunately, costs have risen enormously in recent years and it has been difficult to increase income. Unfortunately, the cancellation of Bad Tabarz is also not a good sign for new organizers. There have hardly been any new organizers in Germany recently, while more and more are dropping out. So let's hope for the best for the sport, because the professional sector seems to be developing quite well at the moment.
