Fort Williams 1

Check passport & ETA

If you are taking part in the iXS European Downhill Cup in Fort William in 2025, you should check early on whether you need an ETA to enter the UK. The ETA is required for many travellers. Applying in good time will help to avoid possible delays or problems when entering the country so that you can travel to the race in Fort William at all.

Who needs an ETA?

An ETA is required if you:

  • do not have a visa.
  • EU citizen, EEA citizen or Swiss citizen.
  • travelling through a British airport and passing through border control.

Who doesn't need an ETA?

No ETA is necessary if you:

  • have a visa or residence permit.
  • are a British or Irish citizen.
  • travelling from Ireland and living there.

The ETA applies to all methods of travel where you cross the British border, whether by plane, boat, train or car. A valid passport is also required.

What is permitted with an ETA?

With an ETA you can travel to the UK for up to 6 months for tourism, business trips or short-term study. It does not allow work or permanent residence.

Application & costs

  • Cost: £10.00 (€11.90)
  • Application: Via the UK ETA app or online at GOV.UK
  • Required: Valid passport, e-mail address, means of payment
  • Duration: Usually 3 working days
